Animated Type

Spiral iPad Animated Type - Katie Hilton www.khilton.co.uk

Little test of animated type using an interactive iPad app. The animated letters were then put together and re-coloured in After Effects.

I'm been really interested in finding ways to animate type in unusual ways for a while now. I like the idea of animating in camera or by interacting with the type by hand rather than fully computer generated. I often put all the letters together in After Effects however.

I worked on another project last year for university and came up with some typefaces consisting of cheese, lemons and lights!

Digital Innovation Interview

Digital Innovation Digital Alumni Katie Hilton Manchester Metropolitan University

I was recently interviewed by Manchester Metropolitan University Digital Innovation website. My very first press piece! I graduated from the the uni's Graphic Design Course last year and they like to catch up with what people have been up to.

Have a gander!

Dia de los Muertos

For my current project I'm working on a 'Day of the Dead' themed picnic/celebration pack. These are some of the cookies that are going inside! And my first attempt at some hand drawn type.

Outtake

Summer Salt

Here are a selection of images from my summer project. We were asked to document our summer and present it in a way of our choosing. These images (and more) make up a book which I hope to get printed very soon.

Leftovers

Some sketchbook development from the last project. Not final outcomes but I like the imagery just on its own.

Voice of War

This is a response to a uni project based around the theme of 'BANG!'

We were asked to experiment with the word and all it means, then take something from out experiments and produce a final application.

I began experimenting typographically with the wartime poetry of Wilfred Owen, trying to show the sounds and sights described in the type itself.

This evolved into me creating and branding an imaginary exhibition of Owen's work, based on the imagery I created. The video below would be a trailer to advertise the exhibition alongside various posters, leaflets etc

The main text was created in letterpress, then scanned and re-scanned lots of times to create the fractured look. I then strung all the images together and jazzed them up in After Effects to make the video you see before you!

I'm hopefully going to get everything printed properly and photographed very soon so more photos next week!

SEAWAVES

I've been working with a friend of mine who is an amazing musician to do some album covers for some future and past albums. The first of which being SEAWAVES. I've utilized my own photography in this as we think the slightly grainy, desatured look created by my Zenit is perfect for the music.

Back

I've also started work on another. This is a very very early draft.

Potentially the greatest week ever.

So I've had an amazing week for good news!

My work for the Ted Baker YCN competion has been selected for commendation. You can see my name here for Manchester Met! http://awards.ycnonline.com/news/post/2010-11-ycn-student-awards-winners-announced/

I've also been offered a placement with the amazing Nik and Carole. They're a small design studio based in Altrincham who specialize in beautiful packaging. I'm so excited to work with them, and just can't wait for it to start!

Exciting times

Not had much time for creating recently. Finishing uni has led straight in working lots more hours. I have a possible exciting opportunity coming up though, regarding a placement at a design studio. Keep your fingers crossed for me on 6th June!

Strangely enough I'm getting into reading for my dissertation pretty early. I'm looking into the relationship of photography and design. Not sure where it will lead me just yet but i'm enjoying the reading so far!

EP Cover design for a friend. You should check out his music here!
This was done quickly last night due to deadlines but I'm really proud of it!

Ready. Steady. Archive.

Outcome from a workshop with film-maker Sam Meech. We had to create a new piece of moving image with supplied archive footage. I decided to focus on patterns and repetition.

Sorry for the bad quality, I only had access to the low resolution versions of the footage but I hope to acquire the full versions soon!
