Harris Camera

Katie Hilton Harris Camera Triple Exposure

I came across a great new photography app called Harris Camera this week that creates triple exposures. Here a couple of little tests with it, I hope to do some more soon!

Katie Hilton Ice Cream

Although being stuck in the studio most of the week while the nice weather continued outside I did have a nice break out for a free Mr Whippy courtesy of fellow tenant of The Sharp Project.

Katie Hilton Crosby Beach Antony Gormley

A day off meant a trip to Crosby and Southport! Antony Gormley's 'Another Place' is one of the only sculpture projects that has ever appealed to me. I've been and photographed it countless times.

Katie Hilton Jame's Italian Manchester Ravioli

This Wednesday was my birthday and I was treated to lunch at Jamies Italian Manchester. Had the very Spring-like Pea & Mint Ravioli!

I love Pinterest. My blog design is even inspired by it! I use Pinterest every day, not just for general browsing but its also a great place to research new projects. I pin a lot so I thought I'd pick my very favourites to show on here every now and again. Onwards!

DRUMROLL

Ah forgot to post these!
I got a letter a while back from the lovely people at YCN informing me of my commended work for the 2011 Student Competition. It was letterpressed and gorgeous.

I was surprised to also get some feedback directly from Ted Baker:

"Ted is well versed in optical illusion as a thematic device for eyewear campaigns, so we were both surprised and delighted to see Katherine's unique and imaginative 'See the Spectacle'. Her response combines surreal humour with a sense of theatre whilst still retaining a simple, effective and 'eye-cathhing' idea that's absolutely right for the Ted Baker brand."

I'm incredibly looking forward to the awards, being held in Shoreditch Town Hall of all places!

Potentially the greatest week ever.

So I've had an amazing week for good news!

My work for the Ted Baker YCN competion has been selected for commendation. You can see my name here for Manchester Met! http://awards.ycnonline.com/news/post/2010-11-ycn-student-awards-winners-announced/

I've also been offered a placement with the amazing Nik and Carole. They're a small design studio based in Altrincham who specialize in beautiful packaging. I'm so excited to work with them, and just can't wait for it to start!

Exciting times

Not had much time for creating recently. Finishing uni has led straight in working lots more hours. I have a possible exciting opportunity coming up though, regarding a placement at a design studio. Keep your fingers crossed for me on 6th June!

Strangely enough I'm getting into reading for my dissertation pretty early. I'm looking into the relationship of photography and design. Not sure where it will lead me just yet but i'm enjoying the reading so far!

Dr Sketchy's

On Friday night I attented my very first Dr Sketchy's with my good friend Courtney (psst check out her blog too!). If you've never heard of Dr Sketchy's check it out here. I'm not a very big drawer. I sometimes doodle for fun but never really use it in my work. However, I had a lot of fun and came out with some stuff I really quite like :)

Hello!

I'm starting this blog primarily to track my own work progress, as I study for my degree in Graphic Design. It will also be a place for showing things (not just design) that I admire and want to share with any who will read. Don't expect too much writing, I like things nice and simple! I hope you enjoy what I hope to be at least a slightly interesting addition to the blog world :)
